Muammad Amir, brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, has approached the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to seek his brother’s recovery. He alleges that unidentified armed men took Afridi away from the Chief Minister’s House on October 11, 2026.
Amir filed the petition through senior counsel Bashir Khan Wazir. He asked the court to direct the provincial inspector general of police (IGP), Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and other officials to locate Afridi immediately. If authorities find him in custody, Amir wants them to produce him before the court. The judges would then examine the legality of his detention under Article 199(1)(b)(i) of the Constitution.
According to the petition, the incident occurred around 2pm on October 11. Amir alleges that armed and masked individuals took his brother away from the Chief Minister’s House in the CCPO’s presence. He argues that the authorities have not disclosed any warrant, order or legal grounds for the alleged detention.
The petitioner has requested a detailed report on Afridi’s whereabouts, current condition and legal status. He also wants the CCPO to explain what happened at the premises. The report should cover security arrangements, the people present and the steps officials took after the incident.
Amir has called for the preservation of CCTV footage, security logs, entry and exit registers, duty rosters and vehicle records. He also wants the authorities to register a first information report (FIR) and launch an impartial investigation into the alleged abduction. If officials find Afridi in unlawful custody, he has asked the court to order his release.
The petition also seeks immediate interim relief. Amir wants the authorities to establish Afridi’s whereabouts and submit a preliminary report within a deadline set by the court. He has further requested that officials produce Afridi before the bench if any person or authority holds him in custody.
The case comes amid growing tensions between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government. On October 11, the Centre imposed emergency and governor’s rule in KP under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution. The PTI alleged that Afridi and several party leaders had been abducted. Officials later confirmed that some were in preventive custody. The political standoff has also affected the party’s planned march towards Islamabad, which the PTI has vowed to continue despite police efforts to stop the protest.
