Kundi Says Governor’s Rule Not Imposed in KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has made it clear that governor’s rule has not been imposed in the province, while strongly criticising the provincial government over its handling of the situation.

Speaking to foreign media, Kundi said any decision to impose an emergency or governor’s rule would depend on the President, Prime Minister and other relevant state institutions. He pointed to Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, which provide the legal framework for such measures.

The governor said he had no issue with peaceful demonstrations, describing them as a legitimate democratic right. However, he warned that violence, disorder or disruption of public life could not be justified in the name of protest.

Kundi also defended his recent meeting on provincial affairs, saying the Constitution gives the governor the authority to call meetings to discuss matters concerning the province, including the law-and-order situation. He said the purpose of the meeting was simply to understand the situation on the ground and review developments in the province.

Addressing criticism from the provincial government, which had questioned the legality of the meeting, Kundi said he was fully aware of his constitutional responsibilities and had acted within the powers granted to him.

The governor also rejected claims that he had instructed the Inspector General of Police to make transfers or postings. He further denied asking the Chief Secretary for funds.

While describing the provincial government as “incompetent,” Kundi reiterated that his focus was on carrying out his constitutional responsibilities.
