PSX remains under pressure amid economic uncertainty

Karachi: Pakistan’s stock market remained under pressure during the latest trading week as investors reacted to economic and geopolitical concerns.

The benchmark KSE-100 index closed at around 168,155 points, recording a weekly decline of more than 2,600 points.

Market sentiment was affected by uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s discussions with the International Monetary Fund as well as developments in international energy markets.

Higher global oil prices have added further concerns for investors because Pakistan remains heavily dependent on imported energy.

The geopolitical situation has also increased uncertainty in financial markets, particularly because disruptions to shipping and oil supplies could affect import costs.

Several major sectors contributed to the decline in the benchmark index, including banking, cement, exploration and production, power and technology.

Analysts believe the direction of the market will depend on developments surrounding the IMF review and the global geopolitical situation.

A reduction in international oil prices could provide some relief to the market, while further escalation of tensions could keep investor sentiment weak.

Investors are therefore expected to closely monitor economic indicators and developments on the external front in the coming sessions.
